SGA unveils plans for year

Although the Student Government Association (SGA) was not officially in session over the summer, its members utilized their time off to work on new plans and developments for the current academic year.

Jasmine Charl?n, executive vice president, said the purpose of SGA’s summer efforts was to implement outreach programs “so that students are aware of SGA and can use us as a resource.”

“We want students to be informed and represented fairly,” she said.

To do this, SGA recently unveiled its new Web site,, which SGA President Annelise Catanzaro hopes will make the organization more accessible to the student body.

Discussions also occurred this summer between Catanzaro and Lee Whitesell, vice president of Academic Affairs, and Information Technology regarding the PrintSense page limit.

The limit was raised from 400 to 600 pages per student each semester. Students who surpass that limit will pay five cents per page they print in College computer labs.

Charl?n, along with Mollie Seiferas, vice president of student services, used the information obtained from a survey conducted last year regarding Sodexho’s Carte Blanche meal plan to implement new changes for the program.

This year, students will receive $4.75 credit usable at the food court in Brower Student Center, the Rathskellar and the Library Caf? between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. every day. Also, Eickhoff Hall will now be open until 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday.

SGA also held an Executive Board Retreat and a Senate Retreat during the summer.

“We planned many events and programs for the fall and we set very high goals for the entire year,” Charl?n said of SGA accomplishments during the retreats. “We are very excited for this year.”

Charl?n also said the most important result of the Executive Board Retreat was the introduction of each executive board member’s individual goals that will “help the SGA be more efficient in solving issues and will target specific areas for which students have shown significant concern.”

She said these goals will be revealed in the next few weeks.

General body meetings for SGA will be held every Wednesday at 3 p.m. in room 202 West of Brower Student Center.
