Lion’s Playlist: Embracing change as seasons change

By Nicole Ciullo

As we make the transition from September to October, from flip flops to shorts and beaches to pumpkin patches, we are reminded that things are always changing like the seasons. With the beginning of fall this past week, we notice the leaves changing from green to red and a new, cool autumn breeze during the evenings. This time of the year is a time to embrace change, a time to remember, in the words of Robert Frost, that “nothing gold can stay.” However, as we enter this new season, we can still keep the memories of the past alive. In honor of these sentiments, I present you with the following playlist:

The Fall – Brendan James

This song is about going to see the world, about discovering who you are, and then making your way back home. Every once and a while, we all need to experience adventure. This song allows you the chance to go “find it all” and he’ll “see you in the fall.”

Learning to Fall – Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

Part of growing up is recognizing what your weaknesses are and getting back up each time you fall down. Mistakes and problems change people, but if you make a positive change, you will be stronger and essentially, happier.

Closing Time – Semisonic

This song truly embodies the spirit of change because “every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.” Life is beautiful if you realize that an end of a chapter is just the beginning of a new one.

Changes – David Bowie

Ch-ch-ch-changes happen every day and we are often put in difficult situations that we cannot control. However, what we can control is how we choose to deal with it. Keep a positive attitude and roll with the punches. Give change a chance.

Swing Life Away – Rise Against

In honor of their new album, let’s give some recognition to this beautiful Rise Against song that encourages listeners to live a carefree life, free from possessions, with the people they love — to compare scars and to move forward.

Man in the Mirror – Michael Jackson

This song is about changing the world, one person at a time. Personal changes are good. Keep improving and learn to love yourself.

People change, things change, seasons change; change is inevitable, and change is good. So don’t fight it. Embrace it, love it, live it.
