Trading tables for technology, Kiana Stockwell is a victim support specialist intern for Anti-Violence Initiatives (AVI) at the College, and in observance of April being Sexual Assault Awareness Month, she helped design the group’s Week to End Rape Culture (WERC) activities.
The Anti-Violence Initiatives (AVI) team held their first virtual Supporting Survivors meeting of the year on Oct. 14. The meeting was centered around power-based personal violence — a topic the moderators felt all students should be informed of.
Sentiments of love and support were written on squares of cut-up jeans at the Anti-Violence Initiatives’ table outside the Social Sciences Building from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 24 to commemorate Denim Day, an annual nationwide event for those who stand in solidarity with sexual assault survivors.
Students walked in and out of the Brower Student Center with name tags, flyers and a better sense of right and wrong at the College’s Anti-Violence Initiative’s annual Day to End Rape Culture expo, which was hosted on April 9 at 10 a.m. in the Brower Student Center Room 100.
The College’s Anti-Violence Initiatives held a workshop in the Social Sciences Building on Feb. 13 to discuss the meaning of toxic masculinity. The psychology department and the women’s, gender, and sexuality studies department co-sponsored the event.
Tension, anguish and raw emotion surrounded the circle of students and administrators as they watched the College’s president slowly break down in tears.
As students proudly sported T-shirts with bold letters reading “Support Survivors,” the College community joined forces to educate others about sexual assault and rape at A Day to End Rape Culture on Tuesday, April 10 in the Education Building.
