From The Roberts: Keeping Cute in the Cold

By Raquel Roberts and Samantha Roberts

Let’s be real. Getting dressed to accommodate the winter’s subzero temperatures can be a complete drag. But with just a few staple pieces and some cute wintry accessories, you  can create an ensemble that is effortless and adorable.

Gail Schulman, a sophomore communication studies major, knows all about keeping fashionable in the frigid winter conditions. Here, Schulman pairs a pair of distressed jeans with a long-sleeved T-shirt and an over-sized knit sweater — two basic items that are easy to wear and easy to layer.

As we all know, accessories can either make or break an outfit. In Schulman’s case, her paisley-patterned infinity scarf, knit beanie and finger-less mitten gloves are what really make this outfit winter-trendy.

“Gloves are the best winter accessory because they’re both fashionable and functional. The mittens that can fold into fingerless gloves are my favorite,” Schulman said about her favorite winter staple.

Below, we will show you how to recreate Schulman’s casually cute winter look at a reasonable price:

Dress like her by layering an over-sized knit cardigan on top of an over-sized long-sleeved tunic. Winter is the perfect time to wear over-sized garments because they provide an effortless yet completely cozy look. Throw a printed scarf on top of your sweater to amp up this outfit while simultaneously providing warmth.

On the bottom, pair your favorite pair of distressed jeans, like the ones pictured below from Lulu’s, with an adorable pair of suede ankle boots. Cute, heeled ankle boots complete any outfit, whether it be a comfy winter look, like this one, or a flirty dress that is paired with a chic pair of tights.

Finish off this look by adding a beanie and a pair of convertible, fingerless mittens. Voilà, there ya have it; a perfect winter look.
