The College’s cross country junior varsity team competed in the Haverford College Junior Varsity Invitational in Haverford, Pa. on Tuesday. This three-mile race was a familiar track to the Lions athletes, as all team members ran at this track back in September.

Of the men’s junior varsity team, five athletes placed within the top 30 runners. Sophomore Nick Bond came in 17th, while freshman Alex Matteson finished in 22nd, followed by sophomore Alex Yersak in 25th, and freshman Mark Sidebottom in 27th place.

“Earlier this season, we didn’t work together as well as we should have but that is changing,” Bond said.

Of the women’s junior varsity team, four athletes placed in the top 25.

Sophomore Abigail Wallach placed 17th, followed by junior Brittany Erickson in 18th. The women were followed by sophomore Cassandra Valdes in 19th, and sophomore Meghan Bruce in 25th.

“I think overall the five of us were happy with how we did … We still have some work to do, but pleased with the results overall,” Wallach said.

Both men’s and women’s varsity teams will run in the New Jersey Conference Championship meet at Richard Stockton College on Oct. 31.

“It should be an easy win,” Bond said.

The junior varsity team hopes to compete in the ECAC Championship at Williams College.

“We are really excited for this meet, as it is a chance for us to compete in a championship event,” Wallach said.

“We are going to have to run harder than any previous year to prove ourselves,” Bond said.
